Our environment
Our environmental impacts include energy consumption, resource use and waste, along with aircraft emissions of carbon and noise. We also raise awareness about biodiversity to try to protect flora and fauna, as well as looking out for the welfare of animals in tourist destinations.

Managing environmental impacts and climate change
All actions to reduce environmental impacts across Thomas Cook Group are implemented under the umbrella of our Group Environmental Policy. Climate change is a priority topic for us, and this page includes information about our climate change strategy.
Aircraft emissions
Our most significant environmental impact is the carbon dioxide emitted from our aircraft. Through technical developments, pilot training and lobbying for airspace to be opened up so that we can take more direct routes, we are striving to reduce these emissions.
Energy and business travel
The electricity and gas we use in our buildings generate carbon emissions, which contribute to climate change, as does the fuel used for our business travel. Initiatives to reduce this energy consumption range from employee training to the installation of sophisticated building management systems.
Waste
Waste is produced across our business, with paper and catering waste being significant streams. Our approach is to minimise the total amount of waste as a priority, then to recycle or reuse as much of the remaining waste as possible.
Resource use
We aim to reduce our consumption of water, paper and other resources. Many tourist destinations are in areas of water scarcity, so we are looking at how we can manage supplies responsibly, particularly in these areas.
Conservation
Many tourist attractions involve wildlife and resorts are often close to areas rich in flora and fauna. It is our responsibility to help care for these environments and the animals that live in them. This we do through education, campaigning and supplier auditing.
